Jack Russell paints a RHS cricket scene
Jack Russell MBE, the England and Gloucestershire wicketkeeping legend was commissioned by Don Topley to paint a cricket match at the Royal Hospital School with a tall left arm bowler performing.
The School is proud to have educated both Don and Reece Topley, so it is fitting that Reece is depicted in the scene as the School’s only international cricketer. Reece, who has played for England sixteen times and has represented Essex, Hampshire and is now with Sussex, spent many years in the School’s 1st XI, starting in Year Nine in 2008
Jack started this project some two years ago and returned last winter to complete his artwork.
Jack said, “It was a delight, a privilege and an absolute pleasure to paint this picture of The Royal Hospital School, Suffolk and to capture for posterity the atmosphere of an amazing cricketing school that is so steeped in history. Thank you to everyone involved at the school for making me feel so welcome.”
